01 · Alfreð · since June 2016
Ten years,
four hats.
Alfreð is a job platform from Iceland. Job seekers search and apply on alfred.is and in the app; employers post jobs and hire in the console. I joined in 2016 and have worked on every one of those surfaces since.

- Since
- June 2016
- Hats
- Web developer, designer, app developer, lead AI architect
- Surfaces
- alfred.is, the Alfreð app for iOS and Android, the employer console
- Markets
- Iceland, Czechia, Malta, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Gabon. One codebase per surface, set up per market instead of forked.
- Built with
- Ember, then Next.js and React on the web; Flutter in the app
- My commits
- 4,300+ across the Alfreð repositories
How the job grew
Every hat
stayed on.
Each role added to the last one instead of replacing it. That is how one person can take a feature from the sketch to the store, and then set up the agents that look after it.
-
01
Web developer
Started on the employer admin in Ember. Later alfred.is in Next.js and the new console in React.
Admin structure, Ads list
-
02
Designer
Screens and flows for the web and the app, and the components they share, so a feature looks like Alfreð wherever it lands.
One orange, one system
-
03
App developer
Started the Alfreð app and have shipped it since: one Flutter codebase for iOS and Android.
Project initital commit, Flutter setup
-
04
Lead AI architect
Set the rules every agent with repository access follows, and built the workspace where anyone at Alfreð can ask the product a question.

to both stores.
I wrote the app's first commit in November 2018 and have shipped it since; 1,185 of its commits are mine. One Flutter codebase for iOS and Android, in six markets and their languages.

Ask the product.
Get a source.
Managers and product owners at Alfreð ask questions in plain words. Claude answers from analytics, crash reports and the code itself, and every number comes with its market, surface and date range.
- A number
- The answer from GA4, with the market and date range attached
- Why did it change?
- An investigation that separates “users changed” from “we broke the tracking”
- Crashes
- What is new or growing, traced to the code
- Where is X?
- The apps and places involved, in plain terms
Routines run on their own. Crash triage every day, into Linear. Analytics requests filed in Linear get answered within five minutes.
Guardrails first. One set of rules for every AI with access to a repository. The product repositories are read-only to it unless a person asks for a change.
02 · Periodic · April 2026 → now
From an idea
to a product.
The periodic table of your obsessions.
An organizer for people who go too deep on a
hobby: the car detailer with a shelf of pH-labelled bottles, the skincare person with an AM and a PM
routine. The idea, the name, the brand, every screen, the code and the deploy are mine.
- Started
- April 2026
- Platform
- Web app, dark first. The phone layout is the contract.
- Built with
- Next.js, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Prisma, Better Auth, Docker
- Status
- In my own use, opening to everyone at getperiodic.app
- Decisions
- Every one written down, D-01 to D-92 so far
Idea → prototype → name → product
It started
on paper.
The first version was a printed wash card: every step, every bottle, every dose. It is still the benchmark. Periodic is that card for any hobby, with the period built in.
-
01 · Idea
A paper wash card
Four steps, the bottle for each and the dose. The paper original the app had to beat.
-
02 · Prototype
Prototype first
HTML prototypes up to v6, still under the codename rabbit-hole. The last one is frozen as the UI spec.
-
03 · Name
rabbit-hole → Periodic
A real word with both halves of the product in it: the table, and the period. Then a brand book for the tile.
-
04 · Product
A real app
On my own server, an API for everything the screens do, and Playwright on every change.
Design · the element tile
Your shelf,
as elements.
Every product gets a colour, a symbol and four corners you fill in yourself: pH, dilution, size, price. Periodic never reads them. Point at any element; this is my own Detailing hole.

Made for the garage.
Low light, wet hands, the phone propped up at a distance. So it is dark first, with big targets and doses written the way you'd say them.
-
It doesn’t know what your data means.
No pH field, no units, no price column. Corners and doses are free text and never parsed, so the same app works for a wax, a serum or a fertiliser.
-
Agents welcome, up to a point.
Everything the screens do is on the API, so Claude can read the shelf and plan a run. Only a person can mark a run done.
